Dr. Dre, (Andre Knight), filed a request for a priority payment of a $3 million claim in the case with Death Row Records and it's founder Marion "Suge" Knight.
Lawyers for Dre argued he was owed more than $1.8 million in royalties and nearly $1.2 million in sales from the unauthorized digital sales of music he wrote, performed or produced. Dre. is going after the money ahead of other creditors. U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Vincent P. Zurzolo denied the request. Here’s the judge’s opinion, which was filed Friday 5/9/14.
Last week, Judge Zurzolo approved and set into motion payments to Death Row Records and the creditors of Suge Knight. Creditors have not received a payment since 2006 when Suge sought court protection.
The trustee for the bankruptcy is ex FBI Special Agent and Director of the Berkeley Research Group, R. Todd Neilson and it's reported that he has $6.3 million in cash available. Some of the money will go toward paying off the claims of the IRS and unsecured creditors may only receive 11 cents on every dollar.
